poem!

in which the heart is approached through diverse comparison;
a man arrives & leaves; the sun rises like a painter.

please forward remittance & your lonely hands,
sleeping across the waterfall.

my hips are raw & days go past like cars.

there against the sky a kind of mirror
turns the lake into the night as streetlights baffle,
now your glowing head is just an afterthought, a line break,
we catch our breath & chase the high notes
round the corner.

the day was big & prosy, scattering
your pretty lyrics.
we bought a drink at the museum
& took some time to scratch.

no more surprises, change the channel.

we know about your childhood,
no one cares, their head was orange,
the book was blue,
every thought a different pastoral,
her brains, his leg, the zoo, the wide screen living.

we were painted on a wall. we built a kite.

perhaps there was a tragedy.

an accident.

once we went to school & coughed, then lunch,
then drinks & wild adventure.

it's time to mention dreams, their bluff embarrassment.

now dawn clogs up the sky.
