argh — putting the dead back into deadlines… my brain hurts, my eyes are all tired & scratchy, & i feel like bursting into tears… but on the plus side, we’re gonna make it on time, it’s nearly the weekend, & things are nowhere near as bad as they were this time last year…

say you, cadbury, c’mere! why do they insist on calling this particular type of chocolate thingy a cadbury flake? i mean, if i owned cadbury (mmmm… own cadbury…) i’d rename the product in question to something like the ha ha you’ve got little bits of chocolate all over your lap & in between all the keys on your keyboard…

& to sort out anyone who had learnt how to open one of these stupid chocolate bars without throwing chocolate every which way, i’d pressurise the wrapper so that the whole thing explosively decompressed as soon as they got started… although given the result i just achieved, mebbe they’re way ahead of me…

birthdaze — ummm… a big, lazy, over-committed-&-ever-so-slightly-stressed-out apology to fiona for missing her birthday yesterday… hope you had a great day… & a big don’t-getcha-hopes-up-too-much-sunshine to el davebot for tomorrow… presents? hmmm… well, i just happen to have an only slightly licked chocolate-coated keyboard right here… but you kids’ve gotta promise not to fight over it, okay? & hey, that’s some nice work on the whole anniversary thing as well…

almost made it — okay, okay, i just gotta scratch the itch… mmmm… scratchy…

yo fool, wassup? so, in the last little while… i’ve started acting in my new job, which is great… what hasn’t been so great is the raft of deadlines i’ve been grappling with… & i’ve still gotta watching brief on my old job as well, & there’s a heap of deadlines that we’ve had to meet there, too, so, you know, things’ve been kinda hectic…

exam, schmexam — sat my exam for database design on the afternoon of saturday 16, & it didn’t go that well, but i think it might’ve just about gone well enough… i’ll find out in a couple of weeks, i guess… at least it’s one less thing to worry about… & i did well enough on the assignments to just need the barest pass in the exam…

cinemascope/technicolour/ogrevision — went & saw shrek with keri & keri’s god-daughter, inaka… shrek’s kinda cool, in a kinda vague, difficult to define 3D-rendered kinda way… i liked it… eddie murphy as the talking donkey, mike myers as the title character, cameron diaz as the princess… i didn’t think the animation was quite as good as a bug’s life, but it’s not far off…

star wars episode two: moulin rouge — poor obi-wan kenobi… as if it wasn’t bad enough that liam neeson had to die on him at the end of star wars episode one, when obi-wan arrives in a model of paris at the start of episode two he falls in love with the star princess satine &, well, hilarity ensues, but also much falling about & coughing up of blood & sobbing… i’m hoping that episode three: darth goes mad with light saber and clones pulls the star wars franchise outta the fire…

actually — as a star wars film, moulin rouge ain’t all that good (although it’s still better as a star wars film than three of the four existing official star wars films)… as a stand alone piece of cinema it works much better… the plot’s not up for much, & the characters are kinda sketchy, & the pacing’s kinda funny, but for some reason i still enjoyed it…

while the magicdog’s away — prizes to the following people for taking the list of suggested non-magicdog-vs-sydney-related things to do a little too seriously…

  • dancin fool — chrisT has been busy… dancin fool has a new-ish address… & now features fan fiction…

  • lexifabricographer — el davebot joins the teeming masses of the weblog nation… who said it took a teenage riot to get him outta bed? (well, okay, sonic youth said that, & they were talking about j. mascis, but you know, most analogies don’t bear close examination…)

  • otherblog — not to be outdone, andrew begins what is, technically, a new weblog… or could simply be a cynical exercise in re-branding, done purely to appease the maniacs in the otherleg.com marketing department who wanna sell more t-shirts & toys-onna-stick & such…

  • on the international front — rob reports from japan: Things are good, weather’s fine, took your advice and am trying to learn a new language blah, blah, blah. that’s great rob, but is Klingon really the most practical choice? i mean, you did consider Gungan, right?

people appearing in the list above may be disappointed (or, quite possibly, not-in-the-least-bit-surprised) to know that their prize consists of an all-expenses-paid mention on magicdog vs sydney… but you know, you get what you pay for…

did i mention keri & stuart & i went to see st germain the other night? they were jazzy, but kinda good… i mean, on the one hand, they were pretty much everything i can’t stand, but on the other hand, i enjoyed the gig…

other stuff to note

alrighty then. back to the busy-ness… updates are likely to be sporadic for a little while yet…
