toy robot!

once upon a time, as we were wandering back to work after having lunch, keri found a card with a picture of a most excellent toy robot on it...

the original toy robot card

"woah!", i exclaimed, "that'd be a good thing to try and raytrace!" & so i purchased the card & started figuring out how i might go about modelling the little robot...

detailed engineering drawings...

weeks passed, & the little robot stared down at me from the shelf above my desk... robot components started to take shape on the screen... trigonometry was attempted! a more adventurous approach to contructive solid geometry was required! the superellipsoid and the prism were called into service, & i began to learn more about the texturing options...

voila! not a precise clone, but certainly a chip off the old assembly line. i'm pretty happy with the way this little robot turned out, & i learnt quite a bit more about driving the raytracer while i was at it... i'm still doing a bit of tinkering, but i thought i should give this version of the little robot its own page (just in case the tinkering started getting out of hand)...

so what's involved in making this little robot? well, you can have a look at the toy robot pov-ray object file & see for yourself...
