some things wot happened in 2009:
& as another year staggers to a close, i’m reminded yet again that it’s physically impossible to get drunk enough to enjoy the NHK new year’s eve red team vs white team marathon singathon. fortunately, it’s just about possible to get drunk enough to endure it… also, if i eat any more sukiyaki in the next little while, i’m in serious danger of exploding.
so here’s a list to take my mind off the tv for a little while (& as an aid to digestion)…
- mum came to visit us for a few weeks, which was fantastic. went to nikko & hakone, showed her around togane, spent a lot of time hanging out with the kids.
- watched the pokemons grow scary big, scary fast (also, watched them getting scary smart.)
- remained employed, for which i remain grateful. not everyone was so lucky.
- spent some time in japanese classes to almost no noticable effect. (it’s quite possible my japanese teacher is one of the most patient people in the entire history of patience.)
- briefly took up karate (possibly to be revisited at some point. wax on, wax off. whatever.)
- moved into a different role at work towards the end of the year, which has been great (learning some new things, working on some different stuff.)
- completed the shonan 10k in a time of 1 hour, 27 minutes without actually dying.
- went to see beethoven’s #9.
- hung out in bars. (well, mostly one bar. but you know, hung out. & may have sung with the resident guitarist on a couple of occasions.)
- completed four laps at the noda 1 hour mountainbike race, also without actually dying.
- went house hunting, with all of the associated hassles & mood swings.
- had our house loan approved! (magic eight ball says, “mood is swinging way, way, way up!”)
- for whatever it’s worth, wrote quite a lot more than in some other recent years.
doesn’t seem like much. seemed to take quite a lot longer while it was all happening. & only another three hours of red vs white to go. to the bottle!
