ow — we put the pokemons on the bikes & went to yoyogi park yesterday morning… seemed like a good idea at the time, but i’m already paying for it this morning…

new bike — Sumie’s new electric mamachari arrived today… she wants to get a second seat for the back so she can take both kids to hoikuen, but we can now (in theory) saddle up with a kid each & head for parks &/or other places of potential interest… that is, of course, my giant leaning disconsolantly against the wall behind Sumie’s new yamaha, & my kona lurking somewhat disreputably in the background…
skank it up — the kona doesn’t always look quite so skanky, but i haven’t washed it in a while… or ridden it, either, if it comes to that… (it’s the first model kona smoke, the 26″ version… cro-mo frame, rigid fork… i think from last year kona went to 29″ wheels on the smoke… the frame is kinda small for me, but was the biggest size available over here… hence the dubious stem extension… used to have full fenders on it, but they annoyed me so i took them off… well, that & they didn’t clear the tyres i bought… although i think, from memory, they were annoying me & had been removed before the tyres turned up… oh no, now i remember… i bought the tyres at the same time that i decided the fenders & gripshifters had to go, so i trashed the fenders & swapped the tyres & shifters at the same time…)
next on the agenda (& one of my tasks for tomorrow), taking haruki to one of the local bike shops & seeing if we can find a helmet big enough to fit his giant head into… i guess if all else fails i can always lend him mine… second on the agenda, actually getting some riding in… i even found my gloves the other week, so i really don’t have any excuses left other than laziness & inertia… & the rain & the bitter cold… but really, it’s just laziness & inertia…

some, uh, park — took the kids to, uh, somewhere, where there was some stuff, including penguins… tokyo sea life park may have been the name of the aquarium, which was actually pretty good… as aquariums go (i seem to have been to a few lately) it was one of the better ones i’ve seen… also featured the giant mesmerising wall of water…

a minor breakthrough? took the kids to nhk studio park this afternoon & hana didn’t burst into tears & insist on running away at the sight of wan wan the giant green & white dog, which is what she normally does when faced with someone dressed up in an animal costume…
(exhibit a: trips to disneyland where mickey mouse was too scary to go anywhere near; exhibit b: the last time we went to nhk studio park, when a possible meeting with wan wan was called off on account of screaming & crying; & exhibit c: rudolph, the dubious reindeer encountered outside a toy store before christmas, although admittedly rudolph was kind of creeping me out as well…)
instead, hana surprised us today by insisting on having her photo taken with wan wan (”wan wan” is the japanese equivalent of “bow wow”), who features on a kids tv program here that she & haruki both watch… at which point haruki, naturally, freaked right out…

attitude adjustment required — been pissy almost all week… need to get my head outta my arse… mebbe i need to get some spiderbait on my damn iPod… or try to subsume myself in the corporate dream again… let’s try spiderbait to start with…

boring geek stuff — so i’m still seriously inPhatuated with this thing, but yeah, a couple of areas that could obviously be improved:
- copy & paste between apps is obviously the big one… you seriously don’t realise how much you use that until you don’t have it available…
- app-specific predictive text/auto-correct… unless i’m missing something, the options for this are system-wide… it’s either on or off… it’s helpful to have when emailing or SMS-ing, but a pain in the arse when writing or blogging, especially if you’re including html markup… which brings me to…
- more of an app issue i guess, but a text editor that supported custom snippets or a custom clipboard or even some basic templating would get my yen in the app store… of course, that would be more useful with copy & paste between apps… (or if custom snippets or templating were available in the wordpress client, that would also improve things… maybe one of the generic blogging clients has this capability?)
- ah, yes, the app store… seriously, the interface for the app store, particularly from the phone, is badly broken, at least for me… way too difficult to find stuff in there… & it appears to be localised by region? i keep seeing apps mentioned in news feeds that the Japan app store doesn’t seem to believe exist… oh, & is there a preference setting somewhere that i can change so i could see english reviews of apps instead of japanese?
- i get that i’m supposed to be tied into the worldwide iTunes ecosystem now, but seriously, the iPod on this thing doesn’t let me create playlists? have to do that on the desktop & sync them across? & yes, i know there’s a single “on the go” playlist available on this thing that i can add stuff too, but having that on there just annoys me even further…
- mysterious app crashes… to be expected when anyone & their dog can grab the SDK & start publishing apps i guess, but even so…
- oh, & one more… as with playlists, same with photo albums? no way to create them on the handset?

what are the chances — of having to work on every day of a four day weekend? surprisingly good, as it turns out… that black cat i knocked off the top of the ladder i was walking under the other day must’ve broken a mirror when it fell or something… that or karma catching up with me…
