some years — are personally more eventful than others… today marks three years since i moved to tokyo… what a great plan that turned out to be!

in which time passes — somehow, haruki is sneaking up on two weeks old… early indications suggest he’s some kind of zen baby, remarkably calm for the most part & easily quietened on the rare occasions he decides he needs to have a yell about something… hana has been very accepting, although she’s not completely happy about him stealing her bed… (not that she’s been at all interested in sleeping in it herself for most of the last year, but i guess it’s the principle that matters…)
achoo no momma — hana’s also decided that her bilingual talking elmo doll (which she calls achoo, in a piece of metonymy accounted for by approximately 75,000 readings of the classic elmo says achoo!) is a good thing on which to practice all the stuff she sees sumie & i doing for haruki… thus far today, achoo has been given several drinks of milk, had its bottom wiped a couple of times, been fed banana cake, & was narrowly rescued from getting dunked in the bath…
got my nerd on — spent much of last weekend working on various PCs… doubled this, upgraded that, repartitioned the other… the dell’s now dual-booting vista & xp & boasts more RAM & disk capacity than i’m ever likely to need, while the thinkpad’s now dual-booting ubuntu 7.04 & xp… & both are (for the most part) talking happily to the NAS over the WLAN…
uh oh — my other project (the one in which i attempt to push back the boundaries of online shopping in a second language) made a giant leap forward the other night when i broke out of the amazon japan ghetto & became a registered member of the breathtakingly wide open expanses of rakuten, where virtual retail extends effectively forever in every direction… (it’s no coincidence that my new desk was delivered yesterday… i have a feeling next month’s credit card bill is not going to be pretty…)
housey housey — speaking of shopping, there’s finally some movement on the house front! one of the banks eventually decided to pony up some cash, & several hours of form signing and sealing ensued… no firm date as yet, but everything’s once again in motion, which is kinda cool…
hmmm — what time is it? i wonder if rakuten is still open… bwahahahaha!

haruki raymond — born 8.48 pm on sunday 8 april… 3.865kg heavy, 53.2cm tall… arrived in something of a rush, apparently didn’t wanna hang around… sumie’s doing well, surprised & not a little relieved that she didn’t have a long labour this time…
