::: see you next sunday (or the one after that)
could possibly be more distracted — no baby as yet. also, no car, no renovations completed, & hence no moving of house. but! i did spend half of yesterday & today with claire & andrey, who paused between moscow & sydney for a quick peek at tokyo… yesterday a walk around & dinner in ginza, today lunch in shibuya & a walk to harajuku to check out the weirdness & grab a brief respite in the relative tranquility of the meiji shrine, then back to shinjuku to catch the narita express. photos to follow as soon as i can recharge my fotofone…
current status — waiting for baby… (in the general sense, not the specific Oh My God Sumie Has Gone Into Labour sense… not that one. just, you know, generally…)

::: the life aquatic
wes anderson is, i think, a genius — saw the life aquatic today, lots of awkward silences interlaced with lots of awkward dialogue & possibly the funniest rescue of a bond company stooge from his pirate kidnappers that has yet been put to film… plus a brilliant soundtrack… i loved it, although i think at the moment i could watch bill murray in just about anything… (including, for instance, coffee & cigarettes, which we saw last week… or possibly the week before… blurry, time is…)

::: notes from the annoying cartoon frog blog
yo’ mama — happy mother’s day!
playstationary — contrary to popular expectations (including my own), life has not come to a complete stop now that we are playstation-enabled… no, not a complete stop…
for instance — yesterday, yuka came to visit & we had a late lunch… we hadn’t planned to have a late lunch, but i am not the world’s fastest cook… the menu was, however, if i do say so myself, worth the wait… balsamic baby squid salad with basil (only because i couldn’t find any baby octopus), vegetable pie, and moroccan beef with steamed couscous… those of you with a donna hay cookbook (specifically, the new cook) close at hand may choose to refer to pages 88, 64 and 98 respectively…
&, as non-preparedness gives way to panic — june 5 (the scheduled akachan arrival date) is fast approaching, & while we’ve been gradually accumulating all manner of baby things, we still appear to have N things (where N is significantly more than a trivial number) left to do, buy, beg, borrow or steal… obviously, we will be fine (& we have a number of people, friends & family, who have been incredibly helpful & generous), but wow, talk about feeling logistically challenged… Sumie continues to be well, although in the last few weeks she’s been starting to find it a little more difficult to get around (onaka ga omoi, yo!), & has developed a new propensity for taking naps…
NYPL digital gallery — this is cool… (found, in a roundabout kinda way, via zeldman…)
oh, yeah — goat eats lettuce. no idea what they sell, but they’re right next door to kidnap milk, which does recycled clothing…

::: playstation 2, magicdog 0
i hab a code — again. but i’m getting better. & because it’s golden week, i only have to go to work on monday & friday next week…
we now have a playstation 2 — & we have just finished 5 hours of some weirdly addictive tetris-like game called something incomprehensible in which my on-screen persona was an annoying cartoon frog…
time flies — i have been in japan for just over a year… this probably calls for some kind of reminiscence, however, we now have a playstation 2 & my on-screen persona is an annoying cartoon frog, so you know, ribbit…
