after hayashi fumiko
i fell in love with mister donut
when i kiss his chill lips sacriliciously
my heart swoons
spirited away/we want shochu! oh my… so shochu is some kind of clear spirit (there are different types of shochu, but if you basically think clear spirit you’ll have the general idea of what i was drinking last night), & you mix it with water & add a slice of lemon, & hurrah! you have a clear drink that tastes exactly like a glass of water with a slice of lemon in it… & so you drink a couple, & then you drink a couple more, & just as you’re thinking this shochu stuff is okay, someone sneaks up behind you & smashes you across the back of the head with a chair, & you go, “ow! i’d better have some more of this lemon water to make me feel better…” &, well, things just aren’t gonna get any clearer from there…
tastefully delivering the blessings of the sun since 1893 — the trip to nikko didn’t quite go as planned… rob & i had a late night & didn’t get to bed until the early hours of the morning, & when rob finally managed to wake me it was absolutely freezing, &, well, you get the drift… i ventured out for a coffee at one point, but spent pretty much the whole day asleep, while rob spent much of the day testing his revived broadband connection… all in all, a bit of a write off, but i needed the downtime…
bunkamura — sumie & i met up in shibuya for a spot of gallery crawling on [day deleted due to memory loss — must’ve been monday], but came to a shuddering halt at the first gallery we visited (bunkamura), which had a huge retrospective of munakata shiko that was just astounding… incredible wood-block prints & paintings & calligraphy…
heavy drinking, some buddhism — yesterday sumie & i caught the train to kamakura & saw the tsurugaoka hachiman-gu shrine & the daibutsu, a huge bronze buddha… kamakura was great, a really nice atmosphere & it was interesting being away from the noise of central tokyo for the day… we went to wara wara in shinjuku for dinner — wara wara wa sugoi desu! fantastic food, then the bottle of shochu arrived & people started hitting me with chairs…
sayonara 2003 — rob just walked out the door on his way to meet up with mari — they’re spending new year in mari’s home town of shuzen-ji, so i’ve got a couple of days in which i’m hoping tokyo will stop spinning & my eyes will start focussing again… i was thinking of selling rob’s furniture while he was away to buy more shochu, but he doesn’t really have much, & i’m still struggling to count in japanese, let alone discuss how much someone might be prepared to pay for a bookcase, so i guess i’m gonna hafta come up with a new plan…
highly evolved monkey magic — so 2004’s the year of the monkey, i’m in tokyo, & i just found rob’s copy of the vines’ highly evolved CD… does life get any better?
